FOA makes families better.

What started out as an idea based on what I needed as a mom and person in recovery, I received from my daughter, while on the roller coaster of active addiction and recovery. She educated me on what her addiction was like for her. I could ask her almost anything and she would explain it to me. I knew I wanted other families that were not as fortunate as I, to receive this same education. FOA was born on October 17, 2013 with our first meeting held in Huber Heights, Ohio in a Sinclair College classroom with six people and a pack of twizzlers.

Today, that simple idea has developed into a thriving nonprofit with culture, vision and passion.

What was only six people has turned into servicing a total of over 22,000 people since that day. In 2018 alone, we have supported over 700 new people for a total weekly meeting attendance of over 7,000! Anyone touched by addiction is welcome to attend our weekly support meetings, now in five Ohio Counties, with our people in recovery being our biggest educators and heros!

Our programs include:

  • Support
  • Advocacy
  • Resource Referral

As we embark in our 5th year of servicing our communities, we embrace our impact and highlights in 2018.

I am looking forward to serving our communities in 2019. All charitable contributions are used to continue delivering our mission and achieving our vision. In 2019, we plan to develop three additional programs:

  • FOA Navigator Network – warm line manned by volunteers to provide support and resources to those that reach out to FOA including follow-up and outcomes
  • Employer Education and Connection – companywide lunch and learns and employee opportunities to receive one-on-one support at the employer location by the FOA Navigator Network team
  • Develop framework for FOA expansion to other Ohio counties

Thank you to everyone that has made this journey possible.
